Eduardo

Hi I’m Eduardo, better known online as CICLA. I started in the world of flash doing stick animations when I was 15 years old. Later I made a few better animation works but they weren’t very popular. Then I thought "I would like to make a game!" . I then started moving, posting in forums and doing art for my game idea, I meet many developers but none of them were very interested until I met Matt :D

The post that start it all

I showed him the art of the game. He liked it and we started working on it but it never came out. It was a complicated real time RPG, so it wasn’t the best idea for our first game. We kept working together and in 2005 we made our first game, a game about a knight and blobs. It wasn't very good either but we got like $25 from a sponsor for it , which was a big deal for me cause I was like “WOW IM GETTING PAYED FOR SOMETHING I WOULD DO FOR FREE!”

A few months later we did our first real game “Final Defense” we made it like in a month or so, and when we released it. It became a hit! I was very excited that our first game made so popular, in a few days it was all around the web and thousands of pages on Google results.

Later in the 2006 I started working with other coders and made a few more successful games like Unreal Flash, Streets of Valhalla and Arrival in Hell. In that year I made a total of 10 games, the most I have done in a year so far. In that year Matt and I made a few good games like Flash Racers, the sequel for Final Defense and a Christmas game called 12 Days. It was a great year. Also that was the year when we decided to start a site and promote it in our games, it did work very well and Rusty became popular very fast. Our first game to be sponsored was Arrival in Hell it was very popular and gave me the chance to meet Rich.

The next year in 2007 Matt and I started working hard again to promote the website. We made 3 games together that year including the widely popular Super Manager, with the help of Matt’s girlfriend Sarah and while Matt was working coding the site and fixing stuff for it. I made Unreal Flash 2007 with Erick; it was an incredible success, my best game so far it has more than 50 million worldwide views and is in almost every game website. It was a big step for Rusty Arcade and our hits sky rocketed. It was clear we were going on a more professional level and that we weren’t the same kids that we were back in the 2005.

In the 2008 Matt started getting more responsibilities from his job and had to stop making games so frequently. While Matt was working in web development backgrounds of the site, implementing the Chat, the users log in and such things I was in charge of adding games to the site and doing games for promotion. That year we mainly sponsored games and made our jump into the online games world by releasing 3 online games in a year: World War Flash, The Newgrounds Card game and Sneaky Tanks. I also released with Hadar the highly popular game Arcane, it was my second best hit after Unreal Flash 2007. I have to say that Arcane is personally my favorite game from those I have done so far and it was inspired by Diablo II which is also a game I like a lot. It took around a year to complete Arcane; we put lot of effort on the details, the story, the art and the programming that Hadar did very well.

In July of that year I made my last game with Matt “Machete Chamber” it was an original idea I had inspired by that game Ragdoll Avalanche. In December after like a whole year Rich and I started working again and we did Santa’s Slay which was an original idea of his own.

At the beginning of this year I drop my job and started working full time on rusty, a big step for me. One of the biggest deals about it was mainly the fact that I’ll have to learn how to program games on my own and cross the bridge from game artist to game developer. I have to say it isn’t an easy task (At least not for me) and it took me like a year to understand a few things of it reading tutorials and lot of ActionScript 2 books. Finally I get to understand a few things and I managed to feel confident enough to take the step.

The first game i coded!

After the release of Mecha Martyr a game I did with Rich (which works with the engine of Santa Slay but with many tweaks) I started developing my first game “24 days in the mall” a game inspired by Dawn of the Dead (and if you didn’t notice with a lil bit of Diablo II on the weapons and the upgrade tree ;D ) I managed to make all the art and all the programming in like 2 months. It ended up with a few bugs and some playable issues. But it got fairly popular and is still getting more than 5K views daily around the web, which means something good I guess.

Finally in the middle of this year we released the redesign of rustyarcade.com with the help of Matt, Rich, Sarah and I. The future is still to come and we are preparing lot of cool features for the site, more new games, more new articles and lot of more stuff for your enjoyment!
