Sorry to use this space to post the fwloloing. I originally posted in the Man in Love dossier and Christopher Shea suggested that I re-post in the Theme section in order to keep everything in one area.Re-post:I know that you say in your interview that you did not want to write a crime drama or ?whodunit.? That you are interested in staging a society?s reaction to the serial killings of Black women. Crimes that cause a ripple effect within the play world that you want the audience to track.Could you not achieve your ends without revealing that Paul Pare was the killer? I can vividly imagine the heightened tension among the characters with Paul Pare taking an active part in the discussions, revealing details of the killings. I can hear Paul Pare advocating for the victims; explaining to his friends the love that the killer must have for them. The killing of Darlynn would, ideally, come as a shock, and cause the audience to reflect back on everything that came before; thereby completing the arc of the play. The train scene epilog lets the audience wonder what comes next for Paul Pare. Posted 3 months ago | report
